Affinity Labs
As global demand for transparency in food and beverage labelling grows, the Australian wine industry faces increasing pressure to meet international standards for nutritional and energy information. Affinity Labs offers testing services that empower winemakers to accurately present the energy and nutritional content of their products, either on-bottle or via the use of e-labels. Energy values are now created as a value-add to all European Union EU export certificates issued by Affinity Labs, at no extra cost to the producer. In addition to this, significant work has been carried out by Affinity Labs to analyse detailed nutritional data for Australian wines and to develop standard nutritional values that can be accepted by the EU market. This provides an opportunity for wine producers to access a nutritional information certificate at around a tenth of the cost of full analysis, saving winemakers more than $250 per wine. These efforts directly align with the evolving regulatory landscape, including new EU mandates that require wines exported after December 2023 to display energy values on their labels. Through provision of export certificate testing, Affinity Labs delivers critical data to winemakers on alcohol, sugars, glycerol, and organic acids—key components in determining the energy values required by the EU market. These energy values not only meet the legal requirements but also provide trusted information for consumers, helping them make more informed decisions. The methodologies adhere to internationally recognised standards, ensuring consistency and reliability. To meet requirements for providing the nutritional content of wines, producers can utilise standard values for proteins, fats, and salt, without the need for actual testing to take place, allowing winemakers to comply with the new labelling laws at no extra cost. The significance of this work is far greater than just supporting winemakers in meeting regulatory compliance. By offering precise and reliable nutritional and energy values, Affinity Labs fosters trust and transparency between winemakers and their consumers. This helps enhance brand reputation in competitive markets while catering to the growing consumer demand for health-conscious choices. Affinity Labs’ provision of accurate and reliable nutritional panel and energy label testing services contribute to the broader goal of sustainability and consumer education for Australian winemakers. and add measurable value to Australian wine brands on the global stage.
