Next Generation Electrical - Sustainabililty Nomination
Casella Family Brands (CFB) announced its goal of achieving Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions by 2050, highlighted by its investment in the largest solar power system within Australia's beverage industry, designed and constructed by Nest Generation Electrical (N/GE). As Australia's largest family-owned drinks company, CFB is setting a high standard for the wine sector by showcasing the importance of a low-carbon future to protect both the industry and the environment. This aligns with Wine Australia’s Emissions Reduction Roadmap outlined in September 2023, which aims to safeguard the industry. N/GE is proud to have been appointed a strategic partner in this ambitious project. N/GE was responsible for the design and construction of the state-of-the-art 5.7MW facility, located near CFB’s largest production site in Yenda, NSW. Through its 8,730 solar panels, it is capable of generating 11.53 GWh of electricity annually, offsetting 7,800 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, which is comparable to planting 325,000 trees. The solar farm features an innovative two-panel tracking system to maximise sun exposure and energy output throughout the year and provides 35% of the site’s electricity needs. Wine Australia CEO Dr. Martin Cole praised Casella Family Brands' new solar farm, noting that it represents a significant commitment from Australian grape and wine businesses towards a lower carbon future. He emphasised that sustainability is a growing priority for consumers and that Casella’s proactive steps to reduce emissions contribute positively to the sector's emissions reduction goals. This investment is crucial for both Casella and the Riverina region, supporting the broader efforts to secure the future of Australian wine. At the switch-on of the facility, John Casella, Managing Director of CFB, explained the company’s commitment to supporting the Australian wine industry’s GHG reduction goals through its products and practices. He highlighted the company’s responsibility to preserve the industry’s future, setting a benchmark for environmental stewardship. This solar facility sets a precedent for sustainability in the wine industry, encouraging other companies to reflect on their environmental impact.
